Updates

1. DSL connection to UH encountered problems with the phone line used.  They did not use the PLDT phone line for the DSL modem.  Is it possible to connect to DSL using another PLDT line? Is the subscription tied to the phone number?

I asked them to remedy the phone line issue and to call me for the Internet connection of the other computers.

2. ITTC lecture is no longer about firewalls but the nat table in iptables.  This makes the lecture less stressful because it limits the topics to be discussed.  I hope everything goes well this afternoon.  Slides are 65% done. (Keynote as usual).  Exercise may have to be revised.

3. Discussion in class was the systems approach to distance education and how the UP Open University is structured in the same way.  Homework for next week is the journal extracts (i have not started.. oh no!).

4. Access points moved to Thursday afternoon.  This is for Asian Center, CHE and hopefully OICA.

5.  I have to find time for the UPIS bridge very soon!!!

Its 12:34 AM already and I am still wide. Coffee may be the culprit. We had a Starbucks blowout to celebrate Akira’s win in the Great Dog Dash sposored by PAWS at Eastwood, Libis yesterday. She won first place int the Elf category thanks to the practice runs she has whenever we come home for the weekends in Las Pinas. She greets us as soon as we open the gate! When she hears the car, she runs to the door and yelps (doggie translation: Please open the door!). My brother carries her out and holds her until we get to the gate. He lets her go as soon as we enter and she comes flying to greet us. (licking and peeing!). Going back to the competition, I found out about this a month ago I think, through an email from my sister. Seeing that it was a race, I immediately wanted Akira to join. So the Sunday Road trip to libis was already planned.

What was supposed to be a two car road trip turned into an overstuffed kia ride when my brother had car trouble. But we still continued on to Libis. When we got there, we still had enough time to register and to look at the race track and the competition. I was informed that there was going to be 3 categories, tinkerbell (chihuahuas and other little dogs), elf (dachshund and other short-legged dogs) and hobbit (the other bigger dogs measuring at most 15 inches). Akira was put in the elf category and was number 28.

We were given a pedigree goodie bag which had treats from pedigree, a feeding bowl (a water bowl for akira), globe scarves, and the scarf with her number.

There were quite a few dogs of different breeds in the competition. it was a perfect place to socialize our little akira who was with humans 24 hours a day with little or no canine contact. She behaved well considering that there was butt sniffing, growling, barking, pulling, and running not only from her but from the other dogs as well.

As the race was about to begin, we (me, neil (my ga), majoy(my sister), mm(my other sister), and jj (one of my brothers)) stayed by the side of the stage planning how we are going to get her to run. I was so surprised by how nervous I was! Nervous and excited. I knew akira could run, but i was not sure if she could run inside the track and with so many other people around. So when we were called to run in the 4th heat of the Elf category, JJ was holding akira at the start of the race while I was on the other end holding a dirty sock and making sure that I had eye contact with akira. Yes, I was holding a dirty sock which happens to be one of akira’s favorite things in the house, and yes, eye contact is important.

Like the title suggests, this is another of my futile attempts at keeping a blog.  I guess I have not been keeping my previous blogs updated.  Better to start fresh than remember everything that has happened since my last post.
